Wesley Prep 2nd and 3rd graders have enjoyed rotating though the Learning Support classroom this month for classic strategy games. This type of play and friendly competition provide social and communication opportunities and can help develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while enhancing concentration, spatial awareness, and decision-making abilities. Wesley Prep's Student Support Team is comprised of a licensed professional counselor, a certified academic language therapist, and a speech-language pathologist who aim to support students' social-emotional and academic growth.

These PreK 4s students built a Christmas tree using paper towel rolls of different lengths. They started by sorting the rolls and arranging them so that all the rolls could be seen. The students decorated the tree with ornaments and put a star on the tallest top. This type of STEAM activity builds fine motor skills, coordination, patience, and balance. The star was weighted, so it was especially challenging.

These Kindergarten Students practiced strengthening their fine motor skills by using push pins to poke holes to create a magical Christmas silhouette. We had Christmas music and a fire roaring in the background. Using a push pin can benefit fine motor skills by strengthening hand muscles, improving pincer grasp, enhancing hand-eye coordination, and promoting controlled pressure application.

WP PreK 3 students are getting into the Christmas spirit in Miss Tucker's class. They worked on their fine motor skills as they created fingerprint Christmas wreaths! Finger painting is a great example of sensory play. It also builds pre-writing skills by strengthening muscles and improving hand-eye coordination. And it's messy fun!

Fifth graders have been working on a Holiday project in technology lab - they are designing wrapping paper. Students did research on how companies make wrapping paper and all the steps involved in the production line. Then, they brainstormed ideas and used Canva software to create their own designs - including choosing backgrounds, resizing and cropping images, and arranging them to create patterns. Alignment was very important.

Wesley Prep Second Graders welcomed Major Dawn McFarland to campus today. Major McFarland is one of the Salvation Army's Commanders for the North Texas Area. We were excited to have her at chapel this morning to receive a check for over $2,000 and gifts for Angel Tree angels. Thank you to the Wesley Prep community for supporting this student-led outreach project. These second graders worked hard marketing their project, selling donuts, and budgeting their funds to fulfill the wishes of their angels. Joyful Learning builds Character and Confidence.

Wesley Prep 4th Graders explored and examined Native American artifacts provided by the Frontier Times Museum (located in Bandera, TX). This hands-on lesson brings attention to the lives of the various Native Americans who lived in Texas and shows how they used their natural resources to survive. Being able to touch an artifact helps to make history come alive!

Mrs. McMillin and the Third Graders held a "soft opening" today for "Seussical Jr." The audience for this rehearsal consisted of stuffed animal friends that each child brought from home. Veterans Day is a special time when we say “thank you” to those who have served in our armed forces. These brave men and women have dedicated themselves to protecting our country and keeping us safe.
Our first graders learned about the different branches of the military. They brainstormed some thoughtful questions about what it means to be a Veteran. They wrote several Veterans letters expressing their appreciation and some questions. These questions included, “How long was your training?”, “Do you get to bring your animals?”, “Do you get to eat food?”, and “Do you protect the USA at night time?”
First Graders also decided to gather “Treats for Troops”, which we will send to Veterans overseas.
To all the veterans with us today, we thank you. You have shown us what it means to be brave, selfless, and strong.
