Wesley Prep Kindergartners took over The Parlor on Friday to celebrate their 100th Day of School. There were lots of fun themed activities. We welcomed a special guest, "Zero the Hero" - to help with a lesson on the importance of the number ZERO - a crucial number and the foundation of mathematical operations and modern computing! Student-Led Outreach is part of Wesley Prep's DNA. Our Third Graders are helping the North Texas Food Bank re-stock the shelves. The students advertised, collected, sorted, and packed up all the donations from our amazing community - over 760 items so far (equaling over 600 meals)! Thank you for your generosity, Wesley Prep!

Wesley Prep Fourth Graders have been diving into the first part of their electric circuit unit. These students have predicted and tested which configurations of a lightbulb, battery, and wire will light, tested materials to see if they are insulators or conductors, and learned about series and parallel circuits. Our 1st graders are having so much fun learning the body parts in Spanish Class! They practiced by putting together “Pedro” on the board, one piece at a time. From la cabeza to los pies, students are mastering new vocabulary while engaging in this hands-on activity.
Learning is always more exciting when we can interact and play! Hands-on learning strengthens engagement and knowledge retention.

Our Robotics Teams competed this weekend in the First LEGO League Challenge Qualifier - both teams received awards - 1st place for Core Values and 3rd place for the Champions Award! We are so proud of these students and their hard work!
This year's theme was "submerged" - using creative thinking and LEGO® technology, students explored the layers of the ocean. This hands-on program helps students learn science, technology, engineering, math, AND helps to develop critical thinking, coding, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

WP First Graders are spreading kindness by writing compliments about their classmates. They have enjoyed reading the positive things that their friends have written about them. These types of writing assignments allow students to express their thoughts, creativity, and uniqueness - making their ideas and thinking visible and permanent.

These PreK 4s students have been working on fun winter-themed activities and learning about hibernating animals!
They created beautiful watercolor snowflakes using salt painting - this is a creative way to teach children about absorption (the paint reacts with the salt as it “travels” along the lines of glue and salt mixture).

Our PreK 4s classes are diving into the elements of art this week! They are mastering the art of mixing colors and learning how to create texture. The students were given yellow and blue paint that they mixed together to create shades of green! The colors were mixed together on their canvases using a sponge. This sponge also helped them to see and understand texture in art.
This lesson is the first step in creating a wonderful masterpiece inspired by Claude Monet's famous painting, The Water Lily Pond.
Enrichment classes are an important means of stimulating creativity, problem solving, and confidence!

Wesley Prep 3rd through 6th Graders helped select The Texas Bluebonnet Award winning book today! Students who read at least 5 of the nominated titles participated in the "vote" - This award is one of the most prestigious children’s choice literary awards in the United States. Each year, 20 books are chosen and schools/libraries around the state encourage children to read and take part in the process.

During Science Lab, these 2nd Graders have been discussing if objects will sink or float and the basic concept of what density is. For the final lab, the students made predictions about hydrophobic sand. Bonus for this lab: learning/seeing how hydrophobic sand reacts to water - they got to feel that it was still dry even after being submerged. Hands-on science experiments help solidify lessons and pique students' curiosity!

Our PreK 3s students have been learning all about animals that hibernate, adapt, and survive during the winter months. The children practiced hibernating in a "den" wearing their pajamas and they played with arctic animals in "snow"! These types of lessons help extend their knowledge and curiosity about the world and the changes that each season brings.

WP 3rd graders are learning about Shadow Puppetry! This Music/Drama lesson involves designing and cutting out silhouettes to create shadows on a translucent screen. The students' projects are inspired by well-known Fairy Tales (i.e., Hansel & Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Three Little Pigs). The students are also including music to enhance their performances!

These 5th graders have been studying the Water Cycle (evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and runoff/collection). The students designed their own experiments using water, ice cubes, different containers, and heat to try to observe all the steps in this circular process. Hands-On Learning helps students to confidently articulate gained knowledge.

Our Sixth Graders have formed teams to play the Stock Market Game. This online simulation of the global capital markets introduces them to economics, investing and personal finance in a practical - and fun - manner. The game not only equips students with valuable knowledge about investing and financial literacy but also fosters critical thinking, teamwork and real-world applications of academic concepts. We can't wait to see how they do!

These PreK 4s students have been learning all about how animals survive in very cold parts of the world. Mrs. Taylor read a book about how penguins have waterproof feathers that are covered in an oily coating - keeping them dry and warm in the water. The students coated their own penguins with a layer of crayon. This waxy surface helped their penguins stay dry when they sprayed them with water!
It was a great experiment that led to lots of discussion about how they stayed warm and dry during the recent snowstorm!

Members of Wesley Prep's Sixth Grade Student Council have been leading groups of students, faculty, and staff members throughout the campus in a prayer/bible study. A group of these students attended the Wesley Prep Leadership Team meeting yesterday to share The Christmas Story and their favorite scripture readings. They talked with the group about how they select a part of the verse that is the most meaningful and use it to inform how they act during the week. Joyful Learning creates Confident Leaders!

These Kindergarten Students have been traveling the world learning about how different countries celebrate the holidays. Students created passports, boarded flights, and have learned about Mexico, Israel, Germany, Canada, and Sweden so far. Check us out boarding our plane. Learning about how other cultures celebrate holidays fosters awareness, highlights shared traditions and values, and encourages a sense of global citizenship.
