These PreK 4s students are getting into the spirit by participating in Christmas-themed activities! We are all so excited about the upcoming holiday - the themed activities make learning fun! Practicing patterns, matching, and counting builds the foundation for early mathematical understanding and helps to develop skills like sequencing, reasoning, prediction, and number/letter recognition.

Wesley Prep Second Graders welcomed Major Dawn McFarland to campus today. Major McFarland is one of the Salvation Army's Commanders for the North Texas Area. We were excited to have her at chapel this morning to receive a check for over $2,000 and gifts for Angel Tree angels. Thank you to the Wesley Prep community for supporting this student-led outreach project. These second graders worked hard marketing their project, selling donuts, and budgeting their funds to fulfill the wishes of their angels. Joyful Learning builds Character and Confidence.

Wesley Prep 4th Graders explored and examined Native American artifacts provided by the Frontier Times Museum (located in Bandera, TX). This hands-on lesson brings attention to the lives of the various Native Americans who lived in Texas and shows how they used their natural resources to survive. Being able to touch an artifact helps to make history come alive!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Wesley Prep Nursery! These beautiful babies are having fun participating in some Christmas themed activities. Unwrapping gifts can help give your child a feeling of accomplishment, joy, and satisfaction. It also lets them practice fine motor skills, using a manipulative grasp and using both hands cooperatively.

These PreK 2.5s students participated in a "sink or float" experiment using Thanksgiving vegetables. This type of STEM activity provides a hands-on, engaging way to introduce basic scientific concepts like density, observation, prediction, and experimentation. Our little scientists loved guessing which foods would sink or float and then watching what happened! Joyful Learning equals curiosity and confidence!

Our PreK 2.5s students had fun learning how to follow directions by reciting a poem about scarecrows! Rhymes and songs are great ways to build hand-eye coordination, listening skills, and language skills. Action rhymes also foster self-confidence. Practice this fun activity together at home! Joyful Learning builds confidence.

These toddlers are participating in a fun Thanksgiving Turkey Activity! This type of lesson is great for their fine motor skills, color recognition, social skills, creativity, AND sensory exploration (the sticky surface and the texture of the soft feathers is a great combination)! Joyful Learning creates curious, creative, confident children.

WP Preschoolers go to the library to develop early literacy skills through exposure to a variety of books, participate in interactive story times, learn to handle books with care, and foster a love of reading from a very young age. Mrs. Mayes does an excellent job of making the library activities appropriate for our 2.5 year old preschool classes, and the kids LOVE the Wesley Prep Library!

Mrs. McMillin and the Third Graders held a "soft opening" today for "Seussical Jr." The audience for this rehearsal consisted of stuffed animal friends that each child brought from home. It was the perfect way to get out pre-performance jitters before the cast officially takes the stage tonight at 6:30 p.m. (with a reprise performance on Friday morning). Break a leg, Third Grade!

Buddy Classes are a great way for older students to connect with younger students on campus and develop leadership and social skills! These PreK 4 students had an exciting day visiting their Second Grade Buddy Class! It's a fun experience for both age groups - they played a fun matching game, read books, and did activities together. Joyful Learning Builds Character and Confidence!

Veterans Day is a special time when we say “thank you” to those who have served in our armed forces. These brave men and women have dedicated themselves to protecting our country and keeping us safe.
Our first graders learned about the different branches of the military. They brainstormed some thoughtful questions about what it means to be a Veteran. They wrote several Veterans letters expressing their appreciation and some questions. These questions included, “How long was your training?”, “Do you get to bring your animals?”, “Do you get to eat food?”, and “Do you protect the USA at night time?”
First Graders also decided to gather “Treats for Troops”, which we will send to Veterans overseas.
To all the veterans with us today, we thank you. You have shown us what it means to be brave, selfless, and strong.

These PreK 4s students participated in a hands-on STEM activity based on the "The Five Little Pumpkins" story - their challenge was to build a structure that can hold five little pumpkins! This type of experiment is great for problem-solving, designing, and measuring skills.

In Spanish Class, students have been learning about different cultures and traditions - exploring how this special day, "Día De Los Muertos" honors loved ones with vibrant colors, memories, and joy. It’s a beautiful reminder of the power of heritage and the love that connects us all.
Thank you to everyone who participated this year - the students have been very proud to point out their family members and loved ones.

The Greatest School on Earth! It was a Halloween Circus today - a bunch of Teachers & Staff Members joined together to dress up. We had clowns, a human cannonball, Dumbo, a strongman, animals, a fortune teller, a plate spinner, popcorn and concessions workers, a lion tamer, and lots more! Joyful Learning sometimes equals dressing up! We have the most creative teachers and staff members. Happy Halloween, have fun and stay safe!

WP Sixth Graders traveled back in time to learn about living in a medieval village. These students read "Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village" by Laura Amy Schlitz. After choosing a character from the story, each student memorized and performed a monologue or dialogue for Open House. These performances included costumes, sets, props, and backdrops created by the sixth graders.

Our Fourth Graders presented "Poetry in the Park" last week. They learned about odes, borrowed poems, and the poetry by writer, Kwame Alexander. These students also researched different eco-systems and State Parks within the Great State of Texas - their poems were a reflection of this work.
The students' performances were very impressive and captivating - they have learned how to be insightful writers and animated storytellers. Joyful Learning creates Confidence and Creativity!

The students in our Toddler A class had fun with this Halloween themed sensory activity! The children identified colors (orange, white, and black), felt the softness of the yarn, and used their fine motor skills to find the spiders!
