Our 5th Grade Campers returned to campus with some of the cool fossils they collected during their Camp Classen trip! These students are continuing this lesson by cleaning, identifying, displaying, and learning the history of their specimens. The area of Camp Classen was at one time a reef - the fossils they identified are bryozoans, brachiopods, or crinoids...
This hands-on fossil exploration offers our students a glimpse into the history of life on Earth.

Wesley Prep Panther Cubs loved hunting for Easter Eggs last week!
May your Easter be as bright and cheerful as our students' precious smiles!

Wesley Prep 4th Graders are touring all the historic sites during their annual Texas History Trip! We can't wait to hear all about your adventures! Thank you to Ms. Bush and Ms. Gandy for organizing this jam-packed experience! And thank you to the parent chaperones who joined the group! Seeing their lessons come alive is a wonderful way to connect classroom learning to the world around them. More photos coming soon...

During Science Lab, Wesley Prep students are investigating the larval stage of the darkling beetle. Through hands-on observation and data collection, they are examining the physical characteristics, behavior, and habitat needs. The lesson will continue with the exploration of the complete metamorphosis process, emphasizing the changes at each stage.
Students are engaging in discussions, recording findings, and making predictions about the upcoming stages, reinforcing concepts of life cycles and scientific inquiry. Hands-on Learning promotes a deeper understanding of a subject.

These WP Kindergartners are learning to identify all the different parts of a plant - their functions and what they need to survive and grow. They participated in an exciting hands-on lesson by planting different types of seeds - we can't wait to watch them sprout (seeds included: cucumber, green bean, radish, lemon grass, and sunflower) - we might be able to make a salad!

These PreK 4 students are working on some fine motor coloring as morning work during our insect unit! Even Mrs. Fahrenbrook stopped by to join the fun! Learning about insects promotes curiosity and fosters a love of nature.
Coloring strengthens the small muscles in the hands and fingers, improving grip and control. Coloring activities can improve a child's ability to focus and concentrate on a single task for longer periods.

Wesley Prep Kindergarten students were treated to an "in-house" field trip today! We welcomed visitors from the Dallas Zoo - the students learned about an amazing selection of animals - including a Leopard Tortoise, a Three-Banded Armadillo, a Eurasian Eagle-Owl, a Ball Python, a Tamandua/Lesser Anteater, and a Black-Footed Penguin!
These types of engaging activities allow our students to connect their classroom learning with the world around them.

Science creates WOW moments! These Wesley Prep PreK 4 students witnessed a cool reaction while participating in an experiment using baking soda and vinegar. Each student created a moon shape, covered it with baking soda, and then sprinkled it with vinegar. After their masterpieces dried, each student had a beautiful moon.
This type of hands-on lesson builds knowledge, fine motor skills, creativity, and fun!

Wesley Prep Fifth Graders have been learning about the Green Screen used in filmmaking and video production.
A green screen backdrop is used to allow for the replacement of the background with another image or video, a process known as chroma keying. Students researched the origin of the Green Screen and its most common applications. Using the Green Screen by Do Ink App, these budding filmmakers are producing a short film/video about a topic (e.g., the weather channel, a mystery film, an advertisement, a comedy, and time traveling).

These Kindergarten students have been learning about ones, tens, and hundreds by using Base Ten Blocks. This hands-on math lesson is a great way to learn about groups and to understand how many "ones" make up a "ten" and how many "tens" make up a "hundred" (they played a fun game using a pair of dice)!

Our Wesley Prep 4th graders celebrated Pi Day today. Around the world, people celebrate Pi Day on March 14th (3-14)! Pi ("π”) is the symbol used to represent a constant for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.1415926.
After reading "Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi," our 4th graders used their knowledge of multiplying decimals to find the circumference of circles using the formula c=πd and enjoyed yummy chocolate pie. Our 4th graders encourage you to celebrate Pi Day also - by eating your favorite pie today!

Our Fifth Graders have been learning to program using "Scratch" in the Technology Lab. As part of their project, they each created two games for younger children to help them practice using the mouse and arrow keys to move characters (up, down, left, right). The games also featured a score-keeping variable, customized characters, backgrounds, music, and sound effects to make the experience more fun. Our Kindergarten and Primer classes had the exciting opportunity to visit the lab and test out the games.
It was wonderful to see the students working together! The Fifth Graders made adjustments to their games, such as modifying the speed to make them more challenging or changing the music, while the younger students practiced their mouse and arrow skills.

It's wonderful to see our Nursery babies WALKING from place to place throughout our campus! These students are so happy about the beautiful spring weather! And it was so great to see Miss Betty join in on the fun!
Playing outside is vital - it provides opportunities for sensory experiences, motor skill development, social interaction, and for exploring the natural world.

Our First Graders recently read Wendy Ewald's book, "The Best Part of Me" - then the students talked about their favorite "parts"! This lesson helped teach the difference between FACTS vs. OPINIONS. The writing exercise was a great way to learn how to express an opinion, a beautiful way to showcase confidence, and it led to a discussion about body image/self-esteem all at the same time!

Our PreK 4s students learned all about the human body. They created a wearable poster with different organs - including fun "interactive" lungs that the students could inflate! This type of hands-on lesson helps children enhance vocabulary skills, communication skills, and knowledge about their body parts and how they function.

Our PreK 4s students are learning about rainbows! They participated in a challenging stacking activity. This type of lesson is great for building problem solving skills, fine motor skills, and perseverance!

Our PreK 4s students participated in a science experiment to learn about how the heart works! The jar full of red liquid represented the heart. The students got to "pump" it to see how the blood flows from the heart to the rest of the body.
Hands-On Learning helps students actively engage and fosters a deeper understanding of scientific concepts!

WP Primer students are learning all about creating texture in their Studio Art Class! They used bubble wrap to replicate the intricate designs of beehives in their latest painting. Texture can be actual or implied, and it can add visual interest to artwork.
The bubble wrap was used as a stamp with different shades of browns and yellows to create the repetitive pattern for beehives. This will be the background for a special 3D project they are working on.

Wesley Prep's 4th Graders welcomed a group from the Wesley Rankin Community Center today - we decorated cookies, played bingo, and won prizes! It was the perfect way to celebrate Valentine's Day!
Thank you to all our parents for helping with the party and thank you to Señora Bustamante for your emcee skills!
And thank you to Ms. Bush and Ms. Gandy for teaching our students to prioritize outreach and the importance of building community relationships.
