PreK 4 students made groovy, Christmas lava lamps this week (and learned an exciting scientific lesson in the process). The overall lesson, that oil and water do not mix, gave an age-appropriate and festive spin on a more complex scientific concept. Science is Cool and Hands-On Learning is fun!

Students made cool crafts, played fun games, and created Christmas cards for Blessing Bags they assembled. The bags will be delivered to Austin Street Center during a WP Outreach event next month. WP First Graders visited the Science Lab this week to learn about extreme weather. Students created their own tornadoes and used centripetal force - agitating the water to create funnels inside the bottles. Hands-on Science is fun!

Our Kindergarten students were visited by their Third Grade buddy classes to create a Thanksgiving Turkey with colorful feathers. Each feather had notes about what they are thankful for this year. We have lots to be thankful for (for example: God, Family, Food, School, Friends, My Dog, and Donuts)!

The Adventure Continues for our 4th Graders, who visited the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge this week! This hands-on field trip was a great way for these students to continue their lessons about the different regions of the State of Texas. WP Second Graders recently completed a unit on the human body (including the skeletal system). They celebrated the end of the unit by welcoming a visiting scientist. Students performed a few activities focused on bones - they made their own collagen, molded clay bones, and constructed a spine out of beads and pipe cleaners. Hands-on Science is Fun - No Bones About It!
