Gifts In Honor Of Miss Linda
Honoring 45 Years of Leadership, Dedication, and LOVE
WESLEY PREP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Linda Altick has been an integral part of this wonderful school since 1951. Linda and her husband, Joe, were longtime members of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church; their wedding ceremony actually took place at the original location of the church on Lovers Lane. Linda is passionate about her family, her friends, her community, and of course, her school. She has inspired an incredible number of people during her forty-five years of dedicated service as a mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, colleague, and leader of Wesley Prep.
Wesley Prep, a ministry of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, was founded in 1968 as a Mother’s Day Out, Preschool, and Kindergarten program. Under the leadership of Linda Altick, who became the Director in 1981, the school quickly became one of the most highly regarded early childhood programs in the Dallas Metroplex. Originally known as The Weekday School, Wesley Prep maintained its wonderful reputation as a developmentally appropriate program for young children for thirty years. In 1998, the school reached another milestone as it added first grade. Slowly but surely the school grew, year by year, grade by grade, always providing an education centered on the whole child. In 2008, the school was officially rebranded as Wesley Prep. Today, Wesley Prep serves students from six months through sixth grade, and it continues to maintain the highest standards, fostering student growth in body, mind, and spirit. Wesley Prep and Linda Altick go hand in hand and many people have said they have a hard time separating the two when talking about one or the other!
Linda Altick, also lovingly known as Miss Linda, displays a little yellow chair in her office. It serves as a guide to why we are here. We are here to nurture the children who sit in the yellow chair. Both Linda Altick and the chair are constant reminders that the children are, and must remain, the number one focus.
One of Linda’s favorite educators is Fred Rogers. Mister Rogers has been quoted as saying, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” Linda Altick has always emphasized the importance of learning through play, hands-on education, a loving and caring Christian environment, and of course, JOY. Linda helped craft the Wesley Prep mission statement that embodies these ideas: Developing joyful leaders empowered by academics and integrity. The Wesley Prep community will always be grateful to Linda Altick for all the care, hugs, lollipops, and JOY she has given to countless numbers of families. Thank you, Linda, for helping instill a love of learning in so many students at Wesley Prep.
