Science

Harcourt Science gives the children the opportunity to investigate the natural world, learn about interesting science ideas, and link science to other aspects of elementary curriculum. A science lab is available for all classes and hands-on experiments reinforce curriculum taught in the classroom.

The science teacher works collaboratively with the classroom teachers to integrate what is being taught in the classroom to the lab. The lab focuses on the scientific method, unifying concepts and processes in science as the basis for developing scientific literacy. The lab focuses on conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization of facts. Students are taught to ask questions, not simply to seek answers. The development of themes gives students a better understanding of the physical and biological world in which we live. Primer through 6th grade students have an opportunity to experience the science lab weekly and Kindergarten students will attend every other week.
