4th Grade Student Work
Fourth Grade at Wesley Prep is a year of self-exploration. In early elementary years, students spend time examining and discovering the world around them. In fourth grade, students begin the journey towards self discovery as well. In an attempt to become more self aware, students are presented with several opportunities to express themselves creatively as they connect themselves deeply with literature, science and history.
Long-term, integrated projects provide a perfect avenue for students to get to know themselves, their classmates, and their content in a deep, rich, personal way. Typically, these integrated projects incorporate several "products" centered on one theme. There is usually a research strand, a technology strand, and a creative response of some sort. In creating such projects, it is my hope that all students, no matter what their learning style or strengths may be, will be able to own their learning in a relevant way. These projects allow for individualization, and they provide an opportunity for every student to shine in some way. In addition, they require each student to fine tune his or her communication skills.
Whether writing a poem, creating a slideshow, or creating a chart or graph, students are encouraged to consider their purpose and audience as they evaluate the effectiveness of any given product. Below you will find a sampling of some fourth grade projects we enjoyed last year.
